In our house, Wednesdays mean breakfast for dinner. We started this tradition about a year ago, and as the primary cook and meal planner it has been incredibly helpful for me. I always know that Wednesdays will be dedicated to breakfast foods, which is a meal everyone in the family enjoys. It also relieves the pressure of coming up with different meal ideas throughout the week. I have found that it is a cost-effective option for our family of five as well.

Some of our favorite Wednesday breakfast dinners include biscuits and gravy breakfast sliders, skillet, eggs, potato, and sausage.
I also enjoy making breakfast burritos, where everyone can customize their own with cooking ingredients. Occasionally, we switch iit up with pancakes or waffles served with bacon or sausage and eggs. I try to reserve those for weekend breakfasts at the kids’ request. It seems when I make pancakes they get eaten as they are taken off the griddle.
Special Days for Yummy Foods
I have found that by having designated days for certain categories of food it takes the stress out of planning. I also learned that meal planning, even if I don’t follow it exactly greatly helps our grocery budget and knowing what we’re going to eat when I get home from work.
At this time in our lives, we eat fairly early. We try to have dinner around 5 o’clock, so by the time we’re done eating, it’s almost 6 and then it’s time for the kids to start getting ready for bed and winding down for the night. Since I get home most days between 4:00 and 4:15 it doesn’t leave much time to make sure I have everything I need to cook when I don’t have a plan in place.
We also do not live close to grocery stores, so making a plan ensures that I have the ingredients I need to make our meals. Although I always keep ingredients for certain meals on hand so if something comes up, I know I have quick alternatives. For example, chicken noodle and tomato soup with grilled cheese is a super quick meal for any last-minute changes. Another staple in our family is tacos.
Do you have staples in your house that you rely on for go-to meals ? I would love to hear about them in the comments below.
Faith
Do you find it hard to nourish your soul? I know that with young children in the home working full-time and doing all the extra things, it can seem like there’s very little time. Taking a little bit of time to make it a priority, to make God a priority will nourish my soul. Even though taking time to slow down and reading His word can feel challenging. I know for me, it is not something I’ve struggled with, but I’ve always strived to do better. We all have areas of growth and God is reminding us that this is just a stepping stone in a big picture that we can not always see. How do you nourish your soul?
One thing I have challenged myself to do this year is to memorize 25 verses with My Bridge Radio. Every two weeks they send out an email or text with a new verse to work on, with the hope that by the end of 2025, you would have 25 verses memorized.
I think it’s a great goal and a great place to start. Feel free to join me by following the link above. As I’m memorizing the verses my goal is to take time to reflect on its meaning.
