Lincoln logs are great for kids of all ages. Our youngest likes to walk and hold them, seeing what he can get into. While the big kids build and create with them.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! Our children receive Lincoln Logs for Christmas. We discovered more that were on the side of the road going to be thrown away. So I rinsed them off and added them to our collection so the kids could let their imaginations run. They were so excited about getting busy and starting to create something new. Our youngest had a great time knocking things down.
Open-ended toys like Lincoln logs are great for kids to use. It allows them to be in control of what they want to create. It leaves space for creativity to happen.
Our kids will pay for hours with open-ended toys because they naturally evolve from one activity to another. Before, I knew it, they had the entire living room area taken over by their creations with elaborate stories to go with them. Here is hoping that their imaginations will encourage them to be great thinkers as adults.
History of Lincoln Logs
Do you know how Lincoln Logs came to be? They were invented by John Lloyd Wright, the son of architect Frank Lloyd Wrigh. In fact, they were inspired by innovative construction techniques used to build log cabins.
An assorted building block developed by Friedrich Froebel, the German educator who championed the concept of kindergarten. As a result, Frank Lloyd Wright constructed his wonders using just his imagination and a collection of blocks.
Do you enjoy learning new information? I learned something new about Lincoln Logs. I honestly did not know the history of them, so I looked it up and shared what I learned with you.
Why Lincoln Logs?
Well, why not? When was the last time you enjoyed some time sitting down to build with your child or possibly maybe even on your own? I know I’m so guilty of not sitting down and enjoying things as I should.
My kids have found such great joy in these simple but timeless toys. I want to find that same joy in such things.
Open-Ended toys
Firstly, what are toys your kids like to play with? Do you have open-ended toys that allow for imagination to happen naturally?
What are other toys that encourage open-ended play? Our kids enjoy playing with DUPO/LEGO, magnetic tiles, blocks, kitchen, dolls, and stuffed animals just to name a few.

Faith
Lincoln Logs make me think about building a great foundation in faith. I know I have been working hard to build a strong foundation for my children. Our faith in Christ provides a strong foundation for navigating life’s challenges. If offers strength in trials that we might face. Reflecting on my faith journey, I know that my parents did their best to guide my brother and I in our faith.
Ultimately, as an adult, it is in my control to grow my faith and strengthen my foundation, so that it may is not built not on sand but on solid ground. I can put myself in situations for growth to happen. I’m hoping that I can help myself continue my personal transformation is which really never ending. One way I do that is by continuing to read new books that encourage spiritual growth as well as reading my bible.
The story that comes to mind is in Matthew when the Bible talks about building a house on rocks. Can you relate to this story? Some days I feel as though I’m a mixture of both sand and rocks, but deep down I know what I believe is sharing it with others and living it publicly that I struggle with. Do you struggle with sharing your faith with others?
In conclusion, I know that I have personally growth that is still happening each and every day and that I will remember to be open to listening to his voice. I will need to pick the “hard” path or the different path and not always the comfortable path that is right in front of me.
Matthew 7:24–27
Build Your House on the Rock
24 z“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like aa wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like aa foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
