One of the joys of being a teacher is when it snows and gets very cold, I also get a snow or cold day for us to! I love that I get to stay home with my kids on these days! It even better when I get to see the joy it brings my kids to see the snow that has fallen to the ground. They are ready to go play in it at a moments notice.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The challenging thing about a snow day for some parents is figuring out what to do with your kids all day if you still have to work. Rotating through different activities, you can keep your kids engaged and entertained for hours. While you get your work done. It’s a great way to keep their energy flowing and their creativity alive while you focus during the snow or cold day.
Have a plan at the beginning of the day so everyone knows what to expect. Help your child pick a few activities to get started them started with the expectation that they are capable of entertaining themselves for a while so you can get some work done. Let them know that you will have set breaks and will help them setup the next few activities. By giving them the expectations at the start of the day it will help them understand what their and your day is going to look like. It can be challenging to have your kids at home while you work but not impossible. Everyone can have a great snow or cold day at home.
Ideas for a snow or cold day:

Build a Blanket Fort: Have the kids help you build a giant fort with blankets, pillows, and chairs. Once it’s built, you can read stories or play games inside.
Indoor Snowball Fight: Use soft white socks or cotton balls for a safe and cozy indoor snowball fight. You can even make targets or build little forts to hide behind!
Dance Party: Play some fun music and have a dance party in the living room. You can do freeze dance or just let them jump around and burn off some energy. There are a much of great ideas on youtube for kids to follow along.
Winter-themed Scavenger Hunt: Hide little winter-themed items around the house (like snowflakes, mini mittens, or small snowmen), and have the kids go on a scavenger hunt to find them! If you have your home already decorate for a winter theme (or any season/holiday) you don’t even need to go hid things around the house, just have them find what you already have out on display!
Sticky Note Scavenger Hunt: Hide sticky notes around the house with different things on them. You could have letters, numbers, or shapes. You can work on the alphabet in order, matching the upper- and lowercase letters together as they find them. The possibilities are endless with this fun activity. Get the kids involved and have them help make and hide the notes.
Play-dough: Make homemade play-dough, there are lots of recipes out there, so try a few and see which ones you like best.
